How to Increase Your Curb Appeal

Your home’s curb appeal can have a huge impact on your ability to sell it. Here are some tips on how to make your home look great from the street so you make a good first impression on prospective buyers.

Choose Low Maintenance Landscaping

When choosing plants for your front yard, try to choose those that don’t require too much care and look great through all seasons. Just because you have the time and enjoy gardening does not mean your prospective buyers will. A yard that requires a lot of work to maintain can be a huge turnoff for buyers who lack a green thumb or have very hectic schedules. Whatever plants you end up choosing for your front yard, be sure to keep them trimmed and neat looking. You can also consider installing a drip sprinkler system, which automates watering, making your yard even easier to care for.

Install Lighting in Front

Lighting up the front of your house not only makes it look better at night, it also makes it safer. Burglars are much less likely to try to break into a house that is well-lit. You should also consider lighting up the path leading to your front door to make it easier for guests to walk up to your home after nightfall. Uplights can help to showcase trees and other interesting parts of your landscaping.

Freshen Up Your Paint

While you do not necessarily need to repaint the entire house, painting your window frames or doors can instantly refresh the look of your home. Also, be sure to maintain the paint on your fence or railings. Because these parts of your home are constantly exposed to the elements, they are the first to begin to crack and peel, which can give the false impression that the rest of the home has fallen into disrepair as well.

Take Care of Your Windows

Make sure that all of your screens and shutters are properly installed and not ripped or broken. It can raise a huge red flag with buyers if you have torn screens or dangling shutters. It may lead them to wonder what other parts of the home you have neglected. Also, consider upgrading to modern, energy-efficient windows, which will save you money on energy costs in the long run and appeal to budget-conscious buyers.
