Tips for Selling Your Home in the Winter
January 18, 2019 3:00 pmWhen people think about selling their home, they often think about doing this in the spring or summer time. It makes sense as most everything looks better in the spring/summer than it does in the dead of winter. However, this doesn’t mean that it is impossible to sell your home in the winter, because it is possible! Here are a few valuable tips that can help to get your home sold even when the temperature may be cold, and snow may be on the ground.
Clear a Path if you are Dealing with Snow
This tip cannot be overstated enough. No one wants to feel as though they have had to climb a mountain in order to get to the front door of your home. Shovel any snow out of the driveway and the walkway so that people who are interested in your home can easily access it. Once you have this shovelled, consider throwing down some salt or sand to ensure that the ice does not become a problem.
Let in the Natural Light
You want this home to appear light and welcoming. Be sure to pull up the blinds, drapes and shades so that the natural light is coming in. Then go around the home and also turn on the lights so that everything can be seen. You will find that this can not only make the home more welcoming, but it can make a home feel better.
Make Sure the Heat is on
The one mistake that many people make, especially if they are not living in the home, is that they do not keep the heat on very much. They often only have enough heat going to ensure that no pipes freeze up. However, the warmer the home, the more likely people are going to picture themselves in it. So, crank up that heat, and if you have a fireplace, be sure to light it to add even more coziness into the home.
Be Careful of Smells
We have all heard the tip to burn a candle that has cinnamon in it before buyers arrive so that the smell makes them think of home. This is a great tip…but it can backfire. That is why most real estate agents are suggesting that if you are going to make your home smell like a cookie, you better have some cookies sitting around for potential buyers to munch on.
Have Soothing Sounds Playing
Sounds can evoke just as much of a feeling of home as smell and sight. Why not make your home feel a bit homier by playing some soft music in the background? You can try for holiday mixes if this is around the holidays, smooth jazz or even classical pieces playing softly throughout the home.
For those who are trying to sell their home this winter, they shouldn’t feel as though this is a losing battle. It can happen, as many people have sold their home in the winter in the past. Use these tips and you may sell it faster than you thought.
